The IRIS is the most sophisticated digital night vision monocular we have ever made. Modeled directly after the AN/PVS-14, the design is perfect for both 'hands free' and handheld applications.

The IRIS has no zoom or magnification. It's a fixed 1X perspective with a 60 degree wide angle field-of-view. It also has remarkably low latency (less than 10 milliseconds) which makes it perfect for helmet-mounted operations.

It is powered by integrated rechargeable batteries and has proprietary firmware which allows the user to adjust the screen brightness and screen contrast.

The IRIS is unique in that it uses a 1.54" OLED display in conjunction with a magnifier. The magnifying tube allows the user to view the screen from a distance, at a larger resolution, using either one eye or both eyes. This design can accommodate a large variety of viewing preferences.

Background Information

In our opinion, the IRIS is not only sophisticated but also extremely practical. The design was specifically chosen to resolve many issues thought to be intrinsic to digital night vision.

For example, the larger field-of-view effectively eliminates the need for constant refocusing of the lens. While the IRIS is still a manually focusing device, the vast majority of operations will not require the device to be focused away from 'infinity'. In other words, it's set and forget — very similar to a PVS-14.

It features a modernized 940nm illuminator, a 60 FPS frame rate, and can even be used while charging.

The IRIS is sold as a complete kit. It includes the monocular, a rubber head strap, a mounting arm, and charging cable. The IRIS can be used out-of-the-box with the included head strap. It can also be used as a handheld device.

For a limited time only, the IRIS will include a NVG Shroud Mounting Plate which will allow it to work out-of-the-box with any ballistic or tactical helmet.

Fantastic digital nvg

This thing is awesome. As far as I can tell, it’s the exact same product as the NightOperators MAX minus some very minor changes to the mold (and ofc being way cheaper)
For the price, I genuinely don’t think you will find a better digital NVG setup than the Iris. I am not sure what all the controversy around J-Arms is however. Mine works fine with my Amazon j-arm, the only issue is that it’s slightly over rotated but it really has zero effect on anything. Big recommend

Pleasantly surprised.

I know the sort of reputation digital night vision devices have but I wanted to get something for my son when we go hunting and I’m genuinely surprised by this Iris. The display is very responsive and snappy..there is effectively zero delay. You can snap your head left, right, up, down, and it keeps up no problem.

The IR light is very well dispersed too. I’ve used other digital devices before, namely cheaper Chinese ones, where the light is a huge spot in the center which makes it very difficult to see things. This one is very well distributed.

I do have one complaint though…and I can’t quite explain why this phenomenon happens, but … sometimes the screen seems blurry, and I couldn’t figure out what is going on so I tested it with some text from a distance (an eye exam of sorts) and what’s strange is that the text is perfectly legible. So I played around with it more and I actually removed the magnifier and realized that the issue actually has to do with eye distance. You can not hold this device to your eye point blank like a PVS-14. It needs to sit an inch or two away for the magnifier to work. You can of course remove the magnifier but it’s worth keeping on there. This is my only pet peeve

Bought mine at the end of August, received the newest gen, so I’ve owned this for about three weeks now. It’s an interesting monocular. Initially I did not like it but with time I learned to appreciate the engineering that went into this thing

For starters, the video delay is effectively nonexistent which isnt something I learned to appreciate until I tried my friend’s digital NVG10. The IRIS is noticeably faster.

I also like how you can tune both the screen brightness and contrast effectively in 1% increments. Again, this is something that I didn’t think I would care for but proved to be very useful because these two settings, when used appropriately, also effectively double as a gain setting.

My only real complaint is that the screen seems to have an “optimal viewing distance” where the focus and resolution are at their best, but TakLite doesn’t really say what that distance is. I think it’s somewhere around 3-4 inches, but at that distance I start to realize I’m beginning to lose some FOV. It’s not a low resolution display by any means, but there is a small window you have to hit pretty accurately if you want peak clarity.

Not a big deal, I’m mostly nitpicking at this point, but I think your personal eye geometry will have a lot to do with how well the IRIS works for you. IMO it’s a good product, and worth trying out. I’d also like to add that the actual profile of the IR light on this is awesome.

new version is good

I have the previous generation IRIS and I just got the newest gen the other day, and I am happy to see they improved so many things about it.

It works with j-arms now out of the box which is awesome. (it was easy enough to DIY it, but this is a nice convenience upgrade for sure). I noticed the focusing is a bit smoother and stiffer so the wheel is less likely to move on you.

I really appreciate the included mounting plate. It's not an expensive part to go out and buy on your own, but hey that's $10 I don't have to spend elsewhere.

Overall, fantastic digital nods, and the other comment is correct this thing is an amazing value proposition considering most companies are selling this for DOUBLE the price.
